In August 2000, the Overseas Chinese World Conference for Promoting the Peaceful Reunification of China was held in Berlin. That was the first world conference of overseas Chinese to oppose the “Taiwan Independence” and advance reunification after the Democratic Progressive Party came to power. The conference proclaimed a “common statement,” calling upon all the Chinese people in the world to strugglee for the peaceful reunification of China.
