On the first day in 1979, the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress published the Letter to Taiwanese Compatriots, earnestly bringing forward the guideline of a peaceful reunification. That was an important announcement of the guideline and policy of the CPC and the Chinese Government toward Taiwan in a new era, which marked a significant change of the guideline and policy toward the Taiwan issues.
