In 2001, some Taiwan compatriots established the “Council for Cross-Straits Peace and Reunification,” with Liang Surong as its president. Liang Surong, a previous principal of the ligistative in Taiwan and a drictor of the Council for Promoting the Cross-Straits Peaceful Reunification, was interviewed by a Xinhua Agency reporter in Taibei. He expressed that the most urgent thing was to “oppose the Taiwan Independence and promote the peaceful reunification,” so that more ordinary people in Taiwan could truly get to know the essence of “One Country, Two Systems.”
