During April and May 2005, Hu Jintao, Secretary-general of the CPC Standing Committee, invited in sequence Lian Zhan, Chairman of the Chinese Kuomintang and Song Chuyu, Chairman of the People First Party who led their teams for their visits to the mainland and interviews. These visits and interviews have established the common political basis for the persistence of “1992 Consensus” and the opposition to “Taiwan Independence”, showing their common position that the dialogues and negotiations should be resumed as soon as possible on the basis of the “1992 Consensus.”
