It has been 25 years now since the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress called for cross-Straits trade, post services and trades in 1979. On December 17, 2003, the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council published an explanatory booklet of the “navigation, post services and trade” policy, referring in details to the status quo and current problems of the cross-Straits navigation, post services and trades and the policies that the mainland authority had carried out. At present, the Taiwan authority has not permited direct cross-Straits navigation, post services and trades, but thanks to the concerted efforts by the people from both sides of the Straits, the cross-Straits navigation, post services and trades continues to advance.
