The guideline of “Peaceful Unification and One Country, Two Systems” has provoked the Taiwan compatriots’ strong wishes to slacken the cross-Straits relationships and restrore the cross-Straits exchanges. Under both interior and exterior pressures, the Taiwan authority had to yield limited permissions in November 1987 for the ordinary Taiwan people’s visits to their relatives in the mainland.
In March 1988, Bu Shaoji, a Taiwanese, finally returned to his hometown where he had left for as long as 40 years, in a union with his mother who had been over 80 years old.
