China will be sending its largest ever delegation to the games. And they are not alone in doing so -- Hong Kong is also arriving with its biggest ever squad for the World University Games.
The members of the Hong Kong delegation come from the top universities based on the island.
Hong Kong Olympic Committee chairman Fok Tsun Ting presented the region's flag to the delegation ahead of their departure to Shenzhen.
Fok Tsun Ting said, "This event is a good opportunity for our athletes. It feels like home competing in Shenzhen because it's so close. We are sending the biggest delegation in our history, more than 100 athletes. We hope they can perform up to their potential."
The Hong Kong beach volleyball team has performed well recently. The squad is hoping that can translate to positive results in Shenzhen.
A Hong Kong beach volleyball player said, "I am honored to represent Hong Kong. I will try my best to represent Hong Kong."
The squad will compete in 15 sports. Their best chance for medals will come in gymnastics and badminton.
