Showcasing integrity China's delegation's top goal at Guangzhou Asian Games

GUANGZHOU, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) -- The top goal of the Chinese delegation at the Guangzhou Asian Games and Asian Para Games, to be held on Nov. 12 in south China's Guangzhou City, is to showcase the professionalism and spirit of fair play of the Chinese athletes to the world, a top official with China's sport authorities said here Wednesday.

"We have decided that the goal of the Chinese delegation at the games are to participate in a clean and civilized way, showing the athletes' spirits and integrity to the world," said Yang Shu'an, deputy head of the State General Administration of Sport of China and the game's organizing committee's vice president.

While the athletes are encouraged to achieve great performances in the games, they are not required strive to win a minimum amount of gold medals, Yang said.

The Asian Games is scheduled to open on Nov. 12. During the 15-day game, a total of 10,156 athletes from 45 Asian countries and regions will compete in 476 events under 42 sports. The Asian Para Games will start on Dec. 12.

The Chinese delegation will not participate in Kabaddi, the game's special sport that originated from and is popular in west Asian countries like India and Pakistan. Most Chinese are not familiar with Kabaddi.
