BEIJING -- Every year, many proposals are submitted at the two sessions by CPPCC members. As the country’s top advisory body, the CPPCC is responsible for formulating suggestions and advice on China’s most pressing issues.

The very air that we breathe, that’s what some CPPCC members are focusing on this year.

Clearing urban air pollution has become a big concern among the public, with the recent PM 2.5 and smog alerts raising environment awareness to a new level.

Proposals include the swift enactment of air pollution laws, and compensation for environmental damage.

Sun Taili, CPPCC member, said, "For the sky to be bluer, for water to be clearer, and to build a beautiful China, we all need to make greater efforts."

The Number One proposal, focuses on agriculture. It was submitted by the Jiu San Society, and tracks the problem of pollution in agriculture.

The proposal highlights the urgency of promoting green agriculture and says 16 percent of China’s farmland is polluted by heavy metal, a significant threat to safety.

Education is also a high priority of many CPPCC members. One proposal calls for more privately-funded education, to make-up for a lack of education resources.

Li Xuechun, CPPCC member, said, "Education resources fall short in rural areas, especially for high-quality education. Most resources are concentrated in the cities."

The secretariat of the CPPCC had received 1079 proposals by 2 pm on Saturday. According to the secretariat, the other major focuses this year are urbanization, health care, and care of the elderly.
