South Africa Pavilion focuses on climate change

South African government departments this month are holding seminars or showcasing achievements for South Africa Pavilion's last monthly theme "Environment and Climate change" in Expo 2010.

The government bodies involved in the events included South African Department of Science and Technology, Department of Water Affairs and Department of Energy. They are holding a series of activities this month, including a seminar on urban planning in the perspective of climate change.

They will also demonstrate the African country's efforts in improving water quality, supplying water for poor community, coping with water shortage and collecting rain water. They will also discuss further utilizing of solar energy and clean energy technologies.

The events are aimed to further expand the cooperation between South Africa and China in fields such as climate change, utilizing clean energy technology, water protection and green economy. The events come after South African President Zuma signed environment cooperation deals with China in August.

The environment deals will set up a platform to boost research project development cooperation and professional knowledge exchanges in fields benefiting for both countries. These fields included biodiversity, environment monitoring, environmental law abiding and enforcing the environment laws, environmental technologies as well as management of dangerous and toxic wastes.
