The German-Chinese Year of Science and Education yesterday wrapped up at the Expo site, fueling the further cooperation between the two countries in the education area. It is part of the "Germany and China - Moving Ahead Together" program.
The year-long event, starting in March 2009, is initiated by the governments of the two countries. So far, there are more than 500 cooperation programs between educational institutes of the two nations.
The ceremony was held at the "Germany and China - Moving Ahead Together" House, which was built for a series of bi-national cooperation events.
Under the joint patronage of Chinese President Hu Jintao and Federal President Horst Kohler, the initiative starting in 2007 has made stops in five cities in China over the past three years. The cities are Nanjing, Chongqing, Guangzhou, Shengyang, and Wuhan.
With over 1.3 million visitors at the previous stations, it has become Germany's largest event series abroad and has advanced exchange and communication between Chinese and Germans. This dialogue now continues at the world exhibition, which will be the last station and the highlight of the series.
Inside the house for the program, the theme is sustainable urbanization, which has been the focus of the three-year event series and corresponds well with the Expo's theme "Better City - Better Life".
The house at the Expo site opens in May and June.
