BEIJING -- The second forum of social groups of Taiwan compatriots on Saturday adopted a proposal of contributing to the peaceful development of relations between the Chinese mainland and Taiwan.
The proposal was made by more than 240 representatives of social groups of Taiwan compatriots from around the world at the closing ceremony of the two-day forum held in Beijing.
"We deeply understand that the duty and responsibility of social groups of Taiwan compatriots is to take the great rejuvenation of Chinese nation as our common appeal, to make joint efforts in advancing the peaceful development of cross-Strait ties and to share the common responsibility of promoting the unity of the Chinese nation," the proposal said.
The proposal called on the social groups of Taiwan compatriots worldwide to assume more responsibilities for cross-Strait relations development, provide better services for the Taiwanese people and give more consideration to cross-Strait exchanges.
Moreover, the proposal urged to devote more in the promotion of Chinese culture and work more for the cross-Strait economic exchanges.
