  What to Eat

Chinese cuisine demands the use of chopsticks, as the food is cut into small pieces. Because only about 10 percent of China's land area is suitable for agriculture, beef is not a significant source of food. Soybeans, not milk and dairy products, are the primary source of protein. A Chinese meal is based on balance. There are roughly four main styles of Chinese cuisine.
1.Northern cuisine around Beijing
Rice is preferred; noodles dishes predominate. The main vegetable is Chinese
cabbage. Peking Duck and the Mongolian hotpot should not be missed if in
Beijing.
2.Haiyang around Shanghai
The predominant food is freshwater fish and shellfish. More vegetables are
available here than in the north.
3.Cantonese
The most familiar cruising to westerners, can be found in restaurants all over
the world.
4.Sichuan
Boasts its highly spiced foods.

Where to Eat

To share a variety of dishes, Chinese meals are best eaten in a group. If you want to eat in the typical Chinese roadside eateries, make sure the restaurant is clean and the food has been freshly prepared and is hot. Bringing one's own chopsticks is strongly recommended
