East China's Jiangxi Province registered 122 Taiwan-funded projects in 2003, using a record 722 million US dollars of investment from Taiwan, a rise of 107 percent from a year earlier, according to a provincial press conference.
The big increase is largely contributed to a local fair in 2003 to attract investment from Taiwan, the largest of its kind ever held in the province, said Liu Yansong, an official in charge of Taiwan-funded businesses.
More than 600 business people from Taiwan attended the fair and expressed great interest in investing in Jiangxi, said Liu.
The new-built Taiwan-funded projects in 2003 cost 5.92 million US dollars each on average, a remarkable rise of 96 percent from the level a year ago.
The number of Taiwan-funded projects each with more than 10 million dollars of investment reached 17 in 2003, up 467 percent year-on-year.
Larger Taiwan-funded projects are mainly involved in commercialand real estate development, household appliance businesses, cement production and hi-tech park construction.
