As reported by Yangtse Evening, Taiwan Research Center under Jiangsu Academy of Social Sciences was officially founded yesterday. This indicated that our province possessed a professional academic institution specializing in Taiwan issues. Wang Rongbing, vice chairman of Provincial CPPCC attended the founding conference.

In the rankings index of commodity trade region structure published last year, Taiwan was only inferior to Japan and America, ranking the third in the total trade volume of Jiangsu and Taiwan accounts for 10.1% of the total volume of foreign trade of Jiangsu now. In particular, Taiwan traders are very active in investing in Jiangsu. According to the statistical data from Taiwan, more than a half of Taiwan traders’ investment projects have settled down in Jiangsu for consecutive three years. The Yangtze Delta is becoming the core for Taiwan traders in Mainland China. It is generally estimated that the total number of Taiwan traders and their family members exceeds 300 thousand. Only in Kunshan, are there over 10 thousand Taiwan traders. The new-built research center will positively concern the issues of Taiwan and further promote the cooperation and communications between Jiangsu and Taiwan.
