Much older than Beijing Opera and Pei Kuan, Liyuan Opera became a part of Taiwan's cultural life even before Taiwanese Opera came into existence. In terms of its language, music, history, tone, and aesthetic presentation, Liyuan Opera can be considered a heavyweight in human civilization.

Established in 1957, the Fujian Province Liyuan Opera Experimental Theatre aims to preserve the authenticity of Liyuan Opera. The theater studies and researches the development of the opera and thereby designs material for training programs for actors. Successful performances by actress Tseng Ching-ping have been regarded as rare accomplishments in Chinese traditional opera.

The abundant and graceful features of Liyuan Opera can be gleaned from the program by Lady Tseng including "Chen Shan and Wu Niang" and Tang Opera.
