A series of large-scale ancient rock paintings have been discovered at the Heavenly Pool Natural Scenic Area located in Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, reports City Consumption Morning Post.

The paintings were discovered 3,500 metres up a mountainside by a group of scientists.

Measuring 70 metres long and 30 metres high, the paintings depict hunting, herding and daily activities, as well as religious rites, of the original tribe that inhabited this area.

Rock painting groups are scattered throughout the seven river valleys of the Heavenly Pool Natural Scenic Area, but scientists say this one is notable for its scale.
