Why are the Three Sino-US Joint Communiqus the Foundation for Stable, Normal and Healthy Development of Relations between China and the United States?
   日期:2001-04-17 14:58        编辑: system        来源:

The Taiwan question has always been the most sensitive issue for a stable, normal and healthy development of relations between the two countries. With joint efforts and on the basis of the five principles of peaceful coexistence, China and the United States signed three joint communiques guiding the development of their bilateral relations, namely the Shanghai Communique of February, 1972, the Communique on the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations of January 1,1979 and the Sino-US Joint Communique of August 17,1982.

Since the 1970s, many Americans with vision and goodwill in and outside the US administration have contributed to resolving differences between China and the United States on the Taiwan question. The aforesaid three joint communiques testify to their efforts and contributions.

As long as China and the United States strictly abide by the principles of the three joint communiques, especially the principle of mutual respect for national sovereignty and territorial integrity, non-aggression, non-interference in each other's internal affairs, equality and mutual benefit, the Taiwan question left over from history will be settled without much difficulty and Sino-US relations will improve and develop. Otherwise, relations between the two countries would suffer setbacks or reverses, against the fundamental interests and wishes of people of both countries.
