Peaceful reunification is an established policy of the Chinese Government.
Peaceful reunification will greatly enhance the cohesion of the Chinese nation. It will facilitate Taiwan's socio-economic stability and development and promote the resurgence and prosperity of China as a whole. It is a common aspiration of the entire Chinese people.
The Chinese Government maintains that sticking to peaceful reunification and not undertaking to renounce the use of force are complementary and a unity of opposites. If the Chinese Government should pledge not to use military means, there would be no possibility of peaceful reunification of the country. It could lead to a final resolution of the Taiwan questtion by military means Non-commitment to renounce the use of force is not targeted at Taiwan compatriots but at attempts of foreign forces to intervene in China's reunification and instigate "Taiwan independence."
What means will be used to settle the Taiwan question is purely an internal affair of China's. Every sovereign country is entitled to safeguard the integrity of its own sovereignty and territory by all means, including military ones, it deems necessary. The Chinese Government has no obligation to pledge to any foreign country or those plotting to split China what means it will use to settle the Taiwan question.
