XIAMEN, Oct. 19 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Kuomintang (KMT) Honorary Chairman Lien Chan left Xiamen in East China's Fujian Province for Taipei on Thursday afternoon.

Before boarding the plane at Xiamen airport, Lien said he looked forward to hosting his mainland friends in Taiwan. "In particular, I hope I'll have the honor of receiving Mr. Chen Yunlin," he said.

Chen, director of the Taiwan Work Office of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, saw Lien off at the airport with a promise that the mainland will buy more bananas from Taiwan, whose farmers are worried about an over-abundant harvest this year.

"We'll contact the relevant department in Taiwan and will take immediate action to buy surplus bananas," he said.

Lien attended a trade fair in Xiamen showcasing progress in cross-Strait agricultural cooperation.

On Tuesday, he attended a cross-Strait agricultural cooperation forum in Boao in the southernmost Chinese province of Hainan, an event he said "constituted a new milestone in cross-Strait cooperation".
