China plans to double its efforts to ward off geological disasters.
Vice Minister of Land and Resources Shou Jiahua says China's first regulation on geological disaster prevention will take effect on March 1st.
In addition, China will establish a nationwide system on disaster surveillance and prevention as well as carry out a disaster forecasting system.
Geological disasters such as landslides and mud avalanches claim an average of over 1,000 lives and about 1.2 billion US dollars in economic losses in China annually. |
