The Beijing municipal animal epidemic prevention center has issued a notice requiring the strict disposal of animal waste and thorough disinfection of re-usable feedstuff bags to prevent and contain the spread of bird flu.
The notice requires that large poultry farms must have special facilities to store and treat the poultry excreta and these must be disinfected regularly.
The places that collect excreta must adopt rigid, compulsory hygiene measures and those that cannot meet the requirements have to be closed, said the notice.
The notice also bans the trade and transport of excreta that isnot properly disinfected. It also prohibits the use of excreta in animal feed and the transporting of animal excreta from other areas into Beijing.
Moreover, the notice bans feed from areas affected by avian influenza and requires thorough cleaning and disinfecting of pack bags, egg baskets and vehicles that are used repeatedly in the poultry industry.
