Steering along its course of promoting environmental standard in the provision of public housing, Hong Kong Housing Authority (HA) published its fourth environmental report to underpin its firm commitment and vision towards a greater environmental sustainability.
Assistant Director of Housing (Procurement) Ada Fung, who is also the department's Green Manager, said that the report recognized the importance of the efforts made by the Authority on sustainable development.
Apart from promoting healthy living, enhancing greater environmental awareness and developing green environment in public housing estates, the authority will also ensure that all relevant environmental legislation and regulations are strictly implemented, she said.
The report, entitled "Meeting Environmental Challenges for a Sustainable Future", highlights the Authority's environmental performance in 2002/03 as well as the way forward in the next fouryears.
"The report illustrates the principles adopted by the authorityin the implementation of its environmental policy," Fung said.
"The authority is also obliged to minimize environmental impacts to residents and the public from the HA's operations," shesaid, noting that continual improvement on the implementation of an environmental management system would be sought.
"Environmental concerns will be addressed while incorporating new initiatives in our core businesses, including planning and designs, construction and demolition, marketing and estate management activities," she noted.
"The authority will continue to strengthen environmental management, reduce environmental impacts from the operations and invest major efforts in innovating building designs for greater sustainability in the future," she said.
