China plans to increase its energy production by 20 percent by 2005 as the market demand keeps soaring.
The updated target will be 170 million tons of petroleum, 50 billion cubic meters of gas, two trillion kilowatt-hours of electricity and two billion tons of coal.
China is expected to rely on imports for 40 percent of its petroleum consumption in the coming years.
China's strong GDP increase is the main driving force for energy production, while the rapid development of auto, steel, manufacturing and telecommunications industries is the main consumer. |
