An official with the State Environmental Protection Administration says environmental law is an important part of the legal system. Departments concerned should take effective measures to encourage the public to be environmentally conscious.
The environmental protection law stipulates that everyone has the responsibility to protect the environment and those that breach the law can be sued.
So far, China has over 2,000 groups engaging in environmental protection.
