Creativity and Communication are the two key words at a Taiwan painting exhibition opened Monday at the National Art Museum of China. Co-organized by the China Friendship Association of Cultural Circles and Taiwan Academy of Fine Arts, the show is regarded as a milestone in Cross-Straits cultural exchanges.

The exhibition features works by a group of celebrated Taiwan artists of the senior generation. The items on display cover a wide range, from calligraphy and block prints, to oil paintings, Chinese ink-wash paintings and multi-media pieces. The collection explores the many artistic possibilities of the modern day multicultural society.

The show unites 18 well established artists from the Taiwan Academy of Fine Arts, whose works are for the first time jointly presented in a large-scale exhibition touring the Chinese mainland. On Monday, visiting artists were warmly welcomed by their mainland contemporaries in the National Art Museum of China in Beijing. Also, they are planning for a series of forums in the capital in the following days.

Mr.Chiang Pin-kung, Chairman of Taiwan's Straits Exchange Foundation, extended his

gratitude to the Chinese mainland at the press conference.

Mr.Chiang Pin-kung, Chairman of Taiwan's Straits Exchange Foundation, extended his gratitude to the Chinese mainland at the press conference. He says the art exhibition can help boost Cross-Straits relations and contribute to the solidarity of the Chinese nation. Both sides ought to seek the common ground for mutual benefits while putting aside differences.

He adds that Taiwan and the Chinese mainland signed a historical trade agreement in June last year that helps benefit both economies. And direct flights in between the mainland and Taiwan consolidate the foundation for expending the people-to-people contact across the Straits.

The Taiwan painting exhibition runs at the National Art Museum of China until the end of August, before moving on to Guangzhou.
