The sixth Cross-Straits Economic, Trade and Cultural Forum closed on Sunday in China's southern city of Guangzhou. Jia Qinglin, Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and Wu Poh-Hsiung, honorary chairman of the Kuomintang Party addressed the closing ceremony.

The two-day Cross-Strait forum injects new momentum into the relation between the mainland and Taiwan.

It focused on cross-Strait cooperation in green energy, energy conservation and environmental protection.

Participants agreed to further expand cross-strait cooperation in areas such as the service sector and academic circles.

Jia Qinglin, Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference hails the success of the forum.

Jia Qinglin, Chairman of CPPCC National Committee said "Through the joint efforts by all the participants, the forum was successful. It once again shows the resolve and confidence of both parties to deepen cooperation and promote peaceful development of bilateral ties. It proves that the cross-strait economic, trade and cultural forum is an important platform to communicate between the Kuomingtang party and the communist party. It will play a positive and guiding role in promoting the development of cross-strait ties. I hope and believe this forum will maintain its vitality and become more influential."

The Kuomintang honorary chairman Wu Poh-hsiung says cross-strait economic cooperation faces many challenges, but there are more opportunities as well.

Wu Poh-Hsiung, KMT Honorary Chairman said "This is the sixth cross-strait forum and it yielded good results. The two sides have signed ECFA, which brought new momentum to cross-strait ties. But there are also many challenges which need to be addressed. We hope the further deepening economic ties could raise the economic competitiveness of both the mainland and Taiwan."

The cross-strait forum is a regular event between the Communist Party of China and Taiwan's Kuomintang party.

Since its inception in 2006, the forum has become an important platform for CPC-KMT dialogues and for exchanges between the people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait.

Many policies facilitating exchange in terms of the economy, trade and culture were announced during previous forums.
