HONG KONG -- Taiwan's share prices closed higher Tuesday with the weighted index up 74.9 points, or 1 percent, to close at 7,506.81, according to news reaching here from Taipei.

The local bourse fluctuated between 7,459.5 and 7,536.32 during the day's trading. Turnover totaled 77.61 billion new Taiwan dollars (about 2.59 billion U.S. dollars).
