TAIPEI -- Kuomintang (KMT) honorary chairman Lien Chan met on Monday with Beijing Mayor Guo Jinlong, who is leading a delegation to Taiwan on a cultural exchange trip.
Lien said Guo had made a meaningful trip. "Cultural exchange is to seek soul-to-soul communication," Lien said.
Guo praised Lien's contributions to the improvement of cross-Strait relations. He said peaceful development conforms to the common aspirations of people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait.
Guo said he hoped that the Chinese mainland and Taiwan would continue the good momentum of economic cooperation and cultural exchange.
There's big room for cross-Strait cooperation, exchange and mutual assistance, Guo said. The mayor expressed his hope that cities on both sides would carry out more diversified cooperation with regard to economy, trade, culture, industrial restructuring as well as management of social affairs.
It was the second meeting between Lien and Guo in Taiwan. When the Beijing delegation arrived in Taipei on Feb. 16, Guo paid a visit to Lien.
Guo is scheduled to leave Taipei on Tuesday. |
