TAIPEI -- A Taiwan court Wednesday rejected the appeals of four family members of ex-leader Chen Shui-bian and sentenced them to three to nine months in jail for perjury.

Chen's wife Wu Shu-jen was sentenced to nine months in jail for masterminding her siblings and in-laws to give a false testimony regarding the use of public funds during his husband's terms as leader from 2000 to 2008, said a statement from the island's "Supreme Court."

Chen's son Chen Chih-chung, daughter Chen Hsing-yu and son-in-law Chao Chien-ming were all sentenced to three months in jail.

Chen Hsing-yu received a two-year delay in the execution of the sentence because she and her husband were both convicted and the couple has young children to take care of, the statement said.

Chen and his family were charged with embezzling public funds through using false invoices to claim reimbursement from the public funds.

During the hearing of the embezzlement case, Wu had instructed her daughter, son and son-in-law to tell the court that they had obtained invoices through buying gifts for guests or treating guests on behalf of their father.

Chen was sentenced to jail on other corruption charges by Taiwan's "Supreme Court" in 2010.
