BEIJING, Oct. 28 (Xinhuanet) -- It's been 6 days since a group of mainland tourists went missing in Taiwan because of a mudslide. The search operation is ongoing, but the hope of finding survivors is fading.
Besides the clothes which are found by the rescue team, there is a watch. The time on it stopped the moment the landslide hit.
After that, their tour bus was swept down a steep mountain slope on the island's east coast. And that's where the watch was found.
But, the rescue team has no idea if they will be able to find its owner.
Meanwhile, early Wednesday morning, rescuers found a mound of earth about 5-stories high, at the 114-kilometer point of the Suao-Hualien Highway.
More than 200 rescuers have been sent to comb the land and waterways around the site. But now poor weather conditions are making things even more difficult.
The body of the bus's Taiwanese driver, Tsai Chih-ming, was found Tuesday. And the search efforts intensified at the location where his remains were found. Taiwan authorities dispatched more helicopters to deliver heavy machinery to the site. |
