TAIPEI, June 3 (Xinhua) -- Taiwan authorities on Thursday rejected a proposal for a referendum on the island's signing of an economic pact with the mainland, known as the Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement (ECFA).
The island's referendum review committee on Thursday voted to reject the proposal submitted by the Taiwan Solidarity Union, an ally of Taiwan's opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).
ECFA aims to normalize mainland-Taiwan economic ties and bring the two economies closer. |
