TAIPEI, March 24 (Xinhua) -- The Kuomintang (KMT) honorary chairman Wu Poh-hsiung said Wednesday the island was willing to discuss with the mainland about sending relief to the mainland's drought-stricken southwestern regions.
Wu told Xinhua Wednesday that he was deeply concerned about the drought and expressed his sympathies to disaster-affected people.
"The mainland offered us their sympathies and support during the island's flood last year. Now watching the southwestern regions suffering from drought, we pray that rain will soon come so our friends in Guizhou can live normally again," said Wu at the opening ceremony of a cultural festival titled "Feeling the Colorful Guizhou."
The festival, scheduled from March 24 to 28, will include a series of performances and activities at the Taipei 101 building to showcase the local cultures of Guizhou for Taiwan people.
The event is jointly held by Guizhou's international culture association and the island's Eastern Television. |
